End of tenancy cleaning is an extremely thorough deep clean, completed when a tenant is moving out of their rented property. The home should be cleansed to high standard so that it feels clean and hygienic to the new tenants who will be moving in. Most places in the home will be included in an end of tenancy clean, but there are also usually optional extras such as carpet cleaning or outside windows so ensure you find out what is and isn’t included and negotiate any extras you want before the cleaners arrive. There are 3 main areas to check after the cleaners have completed their job so let’s take a look at what these are in more detail so that you can feel satisfied that your landlord or new tenants will be content with the work.
Appliances
The first and perhaps, most important, place to check after the cleaners have finished will be the kitchen as there are so many aspects that should be included and that have often had a build-up of dirt and grime that can be a bit trickier to remove. The following appliances should have been scrubbed and there should be no sign of any mould, mildew, dust or grime on them.
Washing Machine and Tumble Dyer – the drum and drawer and rubber seals should have no sign of any dirt or mould left.
Fridge / Freezer – often the freezer will need to be defrosted before the cleaners arrive but providing you have done this, any stains or muck should have been removed, shelves should have been dismantled, washed, and returned, the outside of fridge and rubber seals wiped and behind the appliance should be dust and cobweb free.
Oven Cleaning – the inside of the oven should be cleaned and scrubbed, and the racks removed and replaced when silver and sparkling. The hob, fan and extractor should also be thoroughly de-greased and cleaned.
Microwave/Toaster/Kettle – the smaller appliances such as these ones should also have any grime and limescale removed as much as possible.
Bathroom/s
Once you are satisfied that the appliances are cleaned to a high standard you should peek in the bathroom/s. They are the room most prone to mould and mildew in our home, but these should have been completely removed, along with any limescale or hard water stains, from the shower, bath, toilet and sink. The taps and showerhead should be looking shiny, the shower door as clear as crystal and radiators/towel rails should be polished. A few extra things to check to ensure your bathroom really has had a detailed clean, would be behind the toilet, in the plug holes and the corners of the ceiling and floors to ensure there is no dust or grime left at all.
